The BRAZIL jewelry series is inspired by Terry Gilliam's film (of the same name), which uses sprawling and self-perpetuating tubes as symbols for politically unacceptable systems.
The sculptural closure motifs of the plastic tubes, worked in silver, underscore the archaic effect of the chains, which become a statement of resistance against arbitrary political power when wrapped around the neck or like cables around one’s body.
Today, jewellery art increasingly stands as a means for critical discourse on social issues. A piece enters into a relationship with its surrounding environment and enables the wearer to make a statement – despite potentially being only perceptible to oneself.
