SIMULON FOREST
In der Serie „fake forest“ legt Ela Nord den Fokus weniger auf den Moment der Fälschung, als vielmehr auf den der Imitation. Dies spiegelt sich in den verwendeten Materialien wider, die nicht organisch sind. Es handelt sich um Schläuche, die einer stärkeren Hitze ausgesetzt werden als vorgesehen: schmelzen, zusammenziehen, verbrennen. Durch diesen Prozess entstehen neue Gefüge und Oberflächen, die natürliche Rohstoffe abbilden wollen, wie Leder, Kohle, Knochen oder Holz.
Die in der Galerie V&V gezeigten Stücke „fake forest“ aus der Serie TUBES (seit 2020) bilden verschiedene Hölzer wie Bambus, Birke, Ebenholz oder Milchorangenbaum nach. Aus einem gewöhnlichen Alltagswerkstoff ein anderes Material zu erschaffen (selbst wenn dies nur scheinbar ist), versteht die Künstlerin als positiven Prozess: indem wir etwas in einen anderen Zustand überführen, entstehen Ergebnisse, die uns an den tiefgreifenden Vorgang der Erneuerung und Umbildung erinnern.
In our domestic environment, we use objects that suggest the association of the forest: Wallpapers, fabric patterns, colors and furniture made of wood are supposed to make us feel the security of the forest. The forest has been a source of food and shelter for prehistoric man. Where there is forest, there is also water, and we cannot exist without both. The forest belongs to one of the four elements: the earth.
In her work, the artist Ela Nord focuses less on the moment of forgery and more on that of imitation. This is reflected in the materials used, which are not organic. They are tubes that are exposed to more heat than intended: melting, contracting, burning. This process creates new textures and surfaces that seek to replicate natural raw materials, such as leather, charcoal, bone, and wood.
The collection FAKE FOREST recreate different woods such as bamboo, birch, ebony, or milk orange tree. The artist sees the creation of a different material from an ordinary everyday material (even if this is only apparent) as a positive process: by transforming something into a different state, results are created.
