In 2006, Ela Nord began making jewelry by chance. From the beginning, working with a wide variety of materials has been a consistent fascination. Through ongoing experimentation with found objects - sometimes combined with precious metals and stones - she has developed an affinity for base materials.
"Most of my series are triggered by everyday and industrial materials: associations that a particular structure or shape evokes in me, or a texture that fascinates me to the touch. The concept of transforming materials not intended for jewelry into wearable forms - while incorporating personal reflections on the situations we live in and the environmental politics we face - is key to understanding my work."
Due to her intensive and often long-term engagement with specific themes, her work develops into several series.
